The XXIII SM La Reina Trophy 2022 ends, with Varadero Valencia as sponsor of the ORC 0-1 class and participating with its Varadero Valencia Aquarelle Sailing Team

The XXIII SM La Reina Trophy 2022 has ended after an intense three-day competition in the waters of Valencia, with Varadero Valencia taking part as sponsor of the ORC 0-1 class and with its own vessel, sailed by its new regatta team, which made its debut this year – the Varadero Valencia Aquarelle Sailing Team – on board a CW 44 owned by Arturo Meseguer.

In this 23rd SM La Reina Trophy, the Rodman 42 Maverta belonging to Pedro Gil which competed in the ORC2 class was the victor across all the categories.

In the Varadero Valencia ORC 0 -1 class the vessel Porron IX, a Swan 45 owned by Luis Senis, was proclaimed the winner

The high level of the crews that competed in this year’s SM La Reina Trophy was quite remarkable. They included several world champions and Olympic champions, and numerous professionals from the international circuits formed part of the regatta teams of different vessels. The Varadero Valencia Aquarelle Sailing Team competed in the ORC 0-1 category, but after three intense days they were unable to triumph as they had in the previous two regattas they took part in, securing second place in the penultimate trial and executing a near-perfect regatta, but one which robbed them of first place by just 16 seconds.

Arturo Meseguer, the owner of the Aquarelle 1, emphasizedthe high level of the eight teams competing in the class which joined ORC 0 and ORC 1 together, but the Varadero Valencia Aquarelle Sailing Team did not lose heart at any time throughout the cup and we were always in progression, coming back from our small, albeit consistently costly errors. It was a privilege to form part of such a good team and be able to experience it at the helm of the Aquarelle 1.”

The XXIII SM La Reina Trophy was a hotly contested regatta, but at the same time all of the participants thoroughly enjoyed it. The level was high, encouraging the Varadero Valencia regatta team to carry on growing and improving as a team in order to achieve better results in the future.
